from Ruth Musser-Lopez – Our candidate for CA state senate district 16

Dear Members of the Morongo Valley Democratic Club,

First, I would like to thank you all for the generosity you extended to me in giving me an opportunity to make my presentation at your club meeting, accepting me as a member, and then generously passing the hat and individually helping with the Democratic campaign for the Senate District 16 seat.

Following through on our discussion at the club meeting on June 9, attached please find, as promised, a copy of the New Mountain-Desert Region resolution submitted to the California Democratic Party (CDP).
These are:   SD 16, SD 23, CD 08,  SBC Supervisor 1, SBC Supervisor 3.

This is what the new restructure would look like for the affected Regions.

Region 9 Assembly Districts 26, 36, 40 Darren Parker 661.406.0862

Region 19 Assembly Districts 56, 67, 71 Norberto Gonzalez 951.442.8041

(NEW) Region 9-19 Assembly Districts 33, 42 TBD Phone Number, Email Address.

The largest centers of population in these overlap areas are the Route 62 communities and Victorville.  Another population center of AD 42 is located in Riverside County.  The new arrangement does not resolve ALL issues but is meant to target a very serious organizational problem in the Mountain-Desert Region of San Bernardino County.  It is meant to organize strong Democratic political factions in the Mountain-Desert region of San Bernardino County who have much in common.  Republicans are engaged in “divide and conquer” and it is working.

My advice is that we get our act together and begin planning now for who we are going to elect as our California Democratic Party Delegates in December and then figure out how we are going to get the San Bernardino County delegates from 33 and 42 together to begin deciding who we are going to run for important elected positions.  If you have known me for very long, you will understand that I am very concerned about desert environmental issues, particularly the Cadiz Water Heist, and thus my efforts on every level to resist the Republican agenda and their multitude of public resource privatization schemes.

Please seriously consider supporting this resolution.   There will, of course, be new organizational structures considered in 2020 after redistricting, but for the two year election cycle of 2019 – 2020, this new regional structure will contribute to cohesion and organization in the targeted area.

Thank you again for your assistance and attention to this matter,
Best Regards,
Ruth Musser-Lopez

  1. The Calif Dem Party has 20 regions, we’re currently Region 19. Our Region contains 4 Assembly Districts: Our district, 42 (San Bernardino & Riverside Counties); 56 (Riverside & Imperial Counties); 67 (only Riverside County); and 71 (Riverside & San Diego Counties). In the June Primary, ADs 42 & 56 had Dem candidates with more votes than their Repub challengers while 67 & 71 had Repubs the top vote getters. If we create 919 with AD 33 (only SBC), consider that large AD includes Lucerne Valley, Apple Valley, Victorville, Barstow, Baker, Phelan; in the Primary, very Conservative incumbent Jay Olbernolte easily blew past his Dem challenger Socorro Cisneros with 65.9% of the vote. This is a shame, because there are almost as many registered Dems as Repubs and big Hispanic population, but again – low turnout of registered voters. Could a Region 919 give Dems a stronger presence with the State party? Dunno. Will anything significant change after the census redistricting? Dunno. Are there strong clubs in AD33 like the MB Dems? I Dunno, but maybe someone else does. For more info on district data and more, check out statisicalatlas.com.
