Grassroots Hero Award Fundraiser

Yolanda R. Brown’s name has become synonymous with helping others, near and far. She helps local people in need, and has been tireless in working with asylum-seekers detained at Adelanto, to free them and raise funds for bail and other costs. Most recently, Yolanda has been working with Border Kindness in Mexicali, Mexico and at home, raising funds from far and wide, bringing needed supplies, reaching out to our migrant brothers and sisters in shelters and on the streets, helping them understand their paperwork, and working on the logistics of transporting migrants from Mexicali to Tijuana for San Diego court dates.

Yolanda is an inspiration to all of the Democrats of the Morongo Basin, and we are delighted to inaugurate our Grassroots Hero Award by acknowledging her incredible achievements.

We will have delicious food catered by Arturo at Las Palmas, a Mariachi band, a performance by Danza Azteca Citlaltonac, and inspiring speakers, in beautiful Covington Park. Please join us!

Ticket prices range from $25 – $250; this is a fundraiser for our friends at Border Kindness, who need every penny they can get. However, we recognize that not everyone can afford a $25 ticket. If you want to attend, please email us and let us know; we have a list. If, on the other hand, you are able and you’re feeling generous, please consider buying an extra ticket for someone in need. Let us know and we will pay it forward for you.

Proceeds to benefit Border Kindness. Amounts in excess of $20 per ticket (not including fees) are tax-deductible. Donations to Border Kindness are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Mojave Animal Protection. A fiscal sponsor is a nonprofit organization that provides financial oversight and management, as well as other administrative services to new charitable projects.
